Love was in the air at Ronald McDonald House Tooting!

Ronald McDonald House

Ronald McDonald House Charities provides ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with sick children in hospital. House Assistant Mo Vepari tells us all about how they celebrated Valentine’s Day...

On Valentine’s Day, the day of love, staff and volunteers at Ronald McDonald House Tooting, showed families how much we love them, by making sure the day was special for them.

On the run up to Valentine’s Day, our volunteer cupids made and decorated the House with heart-shaped bunting and paper flowers. They also made Valentine cards for our families.

To start Valentine’s Day on a sweet note, a special breakfast was prepared by staff which included a homemade American-style waffle, topped with strawberries, cream and chocolate sauce. For lunch, families were served a variety of pizzas (donated by our local Co-Op) accompanied with a side salad. Families were also presented with Valentine’s Day gifts – cards, chocolates and beauty products.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the amazing volunteers that donated their time, and to Co-op Food (High St, Colliers Wood) for their generous donation.  Everyone’s contribution helped to make this day special and families told us they felt loved.

Ronald McDonald House Charities’ vision is for every sick child in hospital to have their family close by, and that family is fully supported and involved in their child’s care.

Our charity provides a free place to stay for families close to the specialist hospital their child is being treated in. Giving families this ‘home away from home’ environments helps provide some normality in what is a very stressful time. Day Pass services are also provided for families without a room where they can come in to use the Tooting House facilities (like the kitchen, washing machines or playroom).  We also provide social events throughout the year, giving families the opportunity to spend time together, away from the ward.

We are always looking for volunteers and local businesses to help us with these amazing events. If you are interested, please get in touch.
