The latest news from the Bec Korfball Club! Not sure what korfball is – check out our previous article.

Bec Korfball Club is based in Tooting and have been offering Korfball to anyone since 1948. After multiple successful trials, Bec have announced their team selections for the coming season which include more than 10 newbies and 7 old members rejoining across their 5 teams.

Our first and second team begun their pre-season training in late September with a tournament against other teams, including a win against local rivals Trojans. Head Coach John Denton had this to say about the upcoming season, “After the success of last season I can’t wait to get started again. We have a strong squad that will be fighting to retain the London Regional League (LRL) and try to overcome the bitter disappointment of losing out in both the final of the Europa Shield and the English National League. It’s great to be back working with some of the best players in the country – we will continue to push each other to improve and earn the success we deserve.”

The season for team 2 has already begun with two out of two victories so far. For teams, 3, 4 and 5 (we have 5 teams in total), training has begun on Tuesday evenings at Graveney School and is being headed by sister duo coaching team, Amie and Chloe Swain who both started korfball at an early age and have played at county and country level. They said, “we’re really excited about the upcoming season for Bec 3 & 4! With new faces and returning players in both teams, the season promises to be a successful one.”

Bec 3 have started the season with a well deserved win, but also unfortunately suffered their first loss. This weekend sees two of our Bec teams, 4 and 5, go head to head in a league encounter, whilst Bec 2 look to maintain their winning streak.

On the international scene, Bec are also looking forward to following two of our Bec stars, Davesh Patel and Blake Palfreyman, as they represent England at the European Championships between the 13th and 21st October in The Netherlands
