Volunteer and make your difference in your community

Volunteer and make your difference in your community

Kavita Bowry, Communications and Development Manager at Share Community talks about the huge benefits of volunteering and how your contribution will really make a difference.

Do you have something to Share?

Whether it is your time, your experience, expertise, knowledge, or a personal passion or hobby, there is something about sharing a part of you with others for no apparent reason other than it will help others.

But volunteering is rarely a one-way transaction. And you only have to read some of our volunteer stories to believe this:

You will learn new skills, build on those you already have, meet new people, find an inner confidence you never knew you had, strengthen your community, and you can always be sure you will be bringing joy and making a huge difference in someone else’s life.

Over the past year, volunteers have contributed over 7000 hours to Share’s work, and it is true to say we really couldn’t do the work we do without the help of our loyal and talented volunteers.

One of our volunteers once said ‘I always feel like a celebrity when I come in to Share’ – and that is testament to the warm welcome you are guaranteed to receive at Share. Whether it’s your name or your face – no one will ever forget you and what you did for them!

Share Community is a registered charity based in Wandsworth that provides training and employment support for disabled adults, including those with learning disabilities, autism, physical/sensory impairments and mental health needs.

We teach catering, digital skills, independent living skills and basic skills at our facilities in Battersea, and horticulture at our 2.5-acre garden in Tooting, based within the grounds of Springfield University Hospital. In addition, we provide a range of programmes aimed at personal development, and health and wellbeing, such as yoga, zumba, creative writing and music.

At Share, we believe everyone has something to offer others. To find out more about volunteering at Share, visit our website and check out our current volunteering opportunities.

And if you’d like to share your special talent with us, contact our HR, Projects and Volunteer Manager, Leanne Wood (email leannew@sharecommunity.org.uk or telephone 020 7801 9825), to find out more.
