Tooting-based Pearl Chemist group are working together with the Wandsworth Council Public Health Team in order to spread healthy messages over the festive season and remind people not to overdo it.
We all like to let our hair down a little over Christmas, whether you like a tipple or you’re about to reach for that extra mince pie, but remember to stay safe and as healthy as you can.
The Pearl Chemist Group have been working alongside the Wandsworth Council public health team to raise awareness that alcohol can also effect the waistline just as food can. It’s proven that many people don’t realise just how many calories are in alcoholic drinks.
For example, three average-sized bottles of cider have the same amount of calories as three doughnuts and three average glasses of wine (at 684 calories) would be the same as three ice-creams.
Pearl Chemist have been working on the campaign in the lead up to the festive season and have allowed the council to produce posters, which makes it very clear just what you’re putting into your body.
Pharmacist Mayank Patel from the Pearl Chemist Group in Tooting, has agreed to let the council use the hoarding outside his old premises on Mitcham Road to display the posters. The images will also be put up elsewhere in the borough and shared via the council’s social media channels, encouraging people to engage in a debate.
Mayank said; “We all know alcohol’s bad for us, but it’s not just the effect on your liver, or on your head the next morning. Often people don’t realise the amount of calories they’re consuming when they have a drink.
Hopefully this campaign will make people think twice about having that second glass of wine. However healthy your diet is, it’s not going to do you any good if you wash it down with too much alcohol!”
If you’re out drinking and enjoying a drink or two, please do be safe this Christmas and look after each other!
