Tooting Town Partnership - The Streets Back in Tooting This November

Tooting Town Partnership - The Streets Back in Tooting This November

The Streets will be returning to Tooting Broadway from 19th-20th November.

The Streets returns to Tooting with a crescendo of free music and entertainment popping up in unexpected places on 19th-20th November, as part of the EFG London Jazz Festival.

The high street will be brought to life with local and international artists promising to get your feet tapping at various venues. From family fun with jazz for toddlers to performances from internationally acclaimed jazz and soul beat-boxers, experience a full technicolour and musical Tooting come to life!

Artists will perform in a host of locations including Wandsworth Oasis at Amen Corner, Graveney & Meadow, Tooting Market, The Trafalgar Arms and Broadway Market.

The high street plays host to amazing musical performances from local talent such as The Great Gustos, Fuzion 1 and Squelch Quartet. Local artist Sam Haynes has also been leading children’s art workshops at Tooting library, developing designs for festival banners, inspired by the jazz album covers of the 50s and 60s. These striking large retro style prints will be displayed in Graveney and Meadow during the festival weekend, featuring portraits of Tooting’s public as they imagine themselves jazz artists of the day!

Jazz for Toddlers workshops will take place on Saturday 19th November at Graveney and Meadow and Tooting Children’s Library and will give the youngest music fans an opportunity to enjoy music making of their own. Families will also find lots to appreciate in the performances in their local area.

Headlining the programme are national and international artists Randolph Matthews (UK-based jazz, soul and ethnic beatbox performer), Perhaps Contraption (multi-award winning progressive brass band), Allan Harris (Brooklyn-born, Harlem-based vocalist, guitarist, band leader), Adam Ben Ezra (Double-bass phenomenon, multi-instrumentalist and YouTube sensation), Vimala Rowe and John Etheridge (soulful vocal and guitar duo from the UK).

These events are the final part of The Streets’ two-year programme.  The cross-fertilisation created by putting live events in local businesses and working with community groups is helping revitalize the local scene and create a new sense of communal ownership and ambition for the high street.

“The Streets are doing excellent work…one of the best things about London is how much is going on around every corner.”  Sadiq Khan
