Introducing Ed Barros - MD of Permanex Plumbing in Tooting

| by Editor | Posted in Tooting News

Introducing our latest Community Partner, Ed Barros – Tooting resident and owner of family-run Tooting-based plumbing business, Permanex Plumbing. Ed will be here over the coming months sharing useful advice and tips with local residents to help keep your home in perfect working order. We asked Ed to introduce himself and his business...

TDP: So tell us a bit about yourself and your plumbing business.

Ed: I'm the MD at Permanex Plumbing and Maintenance Ltd. I’m married with two children and have lived in Tooting since 2009.

I run the company with the help of my wife Kate who is our Office Manager. We’re a family-run company focused on a friendly yet professional service with fully qualified, experienced engineers. With a combined knowledge of over 60 years within the industry, we’ve got someone for every job. We deal primarily with residential plumbing and heating faults, boiler and bathroom installations, as well as regular maintenance, servicing and landlords' gas safety certificates. Our office is based in the Trident Business Centre in Tooting.

TDP: How did you get into plumbing?

Ed: Nearly five years ago I set up Happy Dog Plumbing and was involved with the Business Launchpad who provided seminars and one-to-one help.  I ran Happy Dog for 18 months before merging to form our current company.

TDP: How do you work within the community?

Ed: A large portion of our work is carried out in Wandsworth and Tooting and we have many satisfied customers in the area. We also recently had a group of Business Launchpad entrepreneurs come into our office so that we could advise them on running an independent business and to answer their questions. It was good to give something back to the community and to BLP, who helped get us started.

TDP: Who inspires you?

Ed: In business terms I look to entrepreneurs like Richard Branson who has built a multi billion pound empire from selling magazines at the age of 16! From a motivational point of view, my family spur me on to work hard at making the business a success – every parent wants the best for their children!

TDP: What are you hoping to bring to the people of Tooting?

Ed: Simply an honest, reliable service with high quality workmanship from experienced engineers. It sounds simple but is sometimes not the case in this industry.

TDP: What do you like most about Tooting?

Ed: How it’s changed so much in the last five years. I love that there is a real buzz and community feel around the high street and both Broadway and Tooting markets. We have a great choice of places to eat and drink, which makes Tooting a fantastic place to live and work. It’s also enjoyable being part of such a multicultural community – there is always something happening in Tooting.

TDP: Where are your favourite places to hang out in Tooting?

Ed: This is a difficult one to answer since over the last few years there have been some brilliant restaurants, cafés and pubs opening or being refurbished.  If I had to narrow it down I would have to say The Little Taperia is definitely a favourite – my father is Spanish and The Little Taperia serves some of the best tapas I have eaten outside of Spain and their cocktails always go down well (a bit too well if I’m honest).

Another favourite is Tooting Market which has everything you need under one roof – there are some cracking bars, Franco Manca pizzas are delicious, Boom Bap Burger is always a hit, Graveney Gin, Brickwood – there is something for everyone.  There is a great vibe on weekends which again adds to the Tooting community feel. Another favourite is Pedal back Cafe in Broadway Market and I’ve heard that there’s more exciting things are on the way.

If you need a local reliable plumber, then you can find out more and get in touch with Ed at Permanex Plumbing on their website, on Twitter and on Facebook.
