An Evening Discussion on The LGBT Mental Health Service

| by Editor | Posted in Tooting News

As part of Mental Health Month, South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust in association with the LGBT Mental Health Project and Wandsworth Care Alliance are hosting free Evening Discussion on LGBT Mental Health.

On Thursday, 13 October at Earlsfield Library, South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust Chairman Peter Molyneux, will host the event alongside John Morrill from the LGBT Mental Health Project and a representative from Stonewall will facilitate table discussions.

Mr Molyneux said: “We know that 25 per cent of the general population will at some point have a mental health problem and this goes up to 40 per cent of the LGBT population. This is something we need to talk about openly and work together to address proactively”.

According to Stonewall’s research seven in ten (71 per cent) lesbian and bisexual girls and almost six in ten (57 per cent) gay and bisexual boys have thought about taking their own life and 76 per cent of boys who are black or minority ethnic are at risk.

John Morrill who is leading a programme of work on supporting people with mental health problems in the LGBT community said “We want to hear views from LGBT Adult, Youth and Older Peoples Groups, LGBT Carers and Parents, NHS staff, and the police living in the Merton, Wandsworth, Sutton, Richmond, Kingston areas.”

This free event is an opportunity to contribute on how we deliver mental health services to the LGBT community in South West London and will take place at Earlsfield Library from 6pm to 8.30pm and is open to everyone. A light supper will be provided. Reserve your place at:
